The Big Red Horse: The Story of Secretariat and the Loyal Groom Who Loved Him
By Lawrence Scanlan
From Lawrence Scanlan comes a detailed account of the life of the famous racehorse Secretariat. I, Being a life-long horse enthusiast, thoroughly enjoyed it! Many things contribute to a racehorse's success- The owner, jockey, trainer, hot-walker, groom, the horse, his spirit, & temperament... even the weather! It also tells the story of Secretariat's groom, Eddie Sweat, and his dedication to the big, red horse he loved and their times together. A book for anyone, Scanlan makes The Big Red Horse a story that can just as easily be enjoyed by those unfamiliar with the world of horses as those who are acquainted with the many "terms of the track" - I, despite having loved and read about horses for years learned much about the world of horseracing and it's many wonders. A delightful read, I hope you will enjoy it! -armcginn

The Riverman (The Riverman Trilogy)
By Aaron Starmer
Aaron Starmer found a way to craft a story so fantastical, it seems realistic. So off-the-charts-unbelievable, you find a way to turn it the other way around. Alistair Cleary lives in the village of Thessaly, in northern New York. He's the type of boy who everyone trusts with secrets--but when Fiona Loomis tells him a secret so ridiculous, he thinks she may be crazy, he struggles to keep it. Fiona tells a tale of a magical world, where only the children with an imagination so outstanding, they believe in magic, are invited, and welcomed. This world is her second home. Maybe even her first-- but the children there are in danger. The Riverman is out to steal their souls, and Fiona has no doubt that her soul could be next. Filled with imagination, and the most unexpected plot twists, every word of The Riverman lures you into the next!

Specials (Uglies Trilogy, Book 3)
By Scott Westerfeld
This is an amazing sequel to the Pretties. Tally has been turned into a Special, a specially (get it?) engineered "police force" for her city. Tally and her group of friends, The Cutters, must keep the Uglies in their place, keep the Pretties "bubbly", and keep the remaining Smokies from handing out the cure. But when Tally is faced with someone from her past, and the news of a possible war, what will she choose: her "special" powers and thoughts of superiority, or the chance of a new world?
The Lost Rainforest: Mez's Magic
By Eliot Schrefer
Lunafloof
My book review is about the book The Lost Rainforest: Mez’s Magic by Eliot Schrefer. The book is about Mez, a panther born during the eclipse and found friends who were also born during the eclipse to defeat the ant queen. I liked the book because I love panthers and adventure books. I liked that the book made you happy when SPOILER ALERT characters find each other again and sad when SPOILER ALERT characters that you relate to die This book helped me learn about perseverance and pushing forward. Like when SPOILER ALERT they are in the owl fight on the river and they get flipped under the water. In that situation the main character, Mez just keeps pushing through and eventually emerges from the water. Unlike Mez, a character who doesn’t persevere is Sorrella the monkey. In the beginning of the book the side character Sorrella the monkey had no respect for anyone but herself. Sorrella thought she was very sophisticated and we can tell because in one part, Auriel the cobra was talking and Sorrella wasn’t paying attention, she was grooming herself. Gogi the monkey wanted her respect but Sorrella hated Gogi because he was only a seventeen on the rankings. After Gogi SPOILER ALERT saved the animals from the ant queen for the first time, Sorrella actually gave him some respect by giving him praise for what he did. Like when Gogi is giving a speech about how they will defeat the ant queen once and for all, Sorrella is listening and joins into the speech to help prove Gogi’s point. They were all so positive that they would win, and they were even more moved to win because SPOILER ALERT they had a dead member to fight for. I think that the chapter when SPOILER ALERT Nico the fish dies means sometimes good people have bad things happen to them. Nico was a good fish and he didn’t deserve to be SPOILER ALERT eaten by Auriel. This chapter helps show that SPOILER ALERT Auriel works for the ant queen and can hollow out animals bodies. There was no crack in the temple so the ant queen couldn’t have come out of the temple to eat it herself. I hope that if you read the book, you enjoyed it and if you haven’t, you will and you will enjoy it.
